Searching the light on my butt

Last night before sleeping I was playing with my old Canon IXY Digital camera and trying to make a decent picture of myself but finally couldn't do it as I wanted.
The picture below use the automatic setting and flash, which is the most clear of my set but also the most I don't like.
I feel it is a cold and boring shot.

Here is without flash and manual setting.
The thing is I don't have much ideas of how to set up the little options that my pocket camera offer.
Taking shot of my own butt is already tricky and I am becoming ingenious and inventive in order to be able to shot myself, not pretending I have talent, only saying that mirrors are helpful.
But photography is so complex, the light, the speed of the shutter which is a mistery to me, the angle, the shadows.

I know I need to invest in better camera but every time I go to camera stores the guys seems more excited to try to date me than to sell me a camera and in the end I go home with a phone number instead of a new camera or even any advise on what I need.

If you know something about camera and photography, would you be so kind to simply point me to a simple and practical digital camera.
I want something that I only need to aim and shoot pictures and videos, and to makes me look good in the same time.

I have images of what I want my pictures to looks like, but rarely (well, never) succeed to get to the result I wanted.
